Summary of "Thanksgiving Day"
Thanksgiving Day is the fourth Thursday in November and it’s the time of the year for tradition and sharing and families come together for a family reunion. The American Thanksgiving started as a feast of thanks by the British colonies in America four hundred years ago when the first colonists almost died of the no food syndrome but the Indians promised to help them in exchange of protection. They had a lot to celebrate and they planned a special day for thanks and prayer.
In 1864, at the end of Civil War, President Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November an official Thanksgiving Day. In 1941, Thanksgiving was proclaimed a federal legal holiday, and most people got a four-day vacation from school and work.
Turkey, corn, pumpkins, squash, nuts, and cranberry sauce are the symbols of Thanksgiving and the fall colors orange, red, brown, and yellow are used in decorations. A song that is typically for Thanksgiving is "Over the River and Through the Woods."
